Introduction to the Trek
While a holy pilgrimage for Hindus, Madhyamaheshwar is also mandatory when it comes to trekkers and nature lovers. Madhyamaheshwar, situated at an elevation of 3,497 metres (11,4730 ft) lies snappingly between the spiritual and mystical aura that we have heard about or read in books. The temple dedicated to the worship of Shiva, surrounded by regal Himalayan peaks is considered as one involving Lord Narayana and a form where "navel" (madhya) was worshipped as per the Panch Kedar mythology.
It's considered a moderate trek and it is good for someone who has prior experience of doing such treks. Winding its way through thick forests, alpine meadows and remote villages the trail looks upon some of the most amazing views of snow-capped peaks such as Chaukhamba, Kedarnath & Neelkanth.
Itinerary
Today you will travel from Haridwar/Rishikesh to Ukhimath (200 km/7-8 hours)
From Haridwar or Rishikesh Start your journey by a drive to Ukhimath THE Winter Seat of Lord Kedarnath. Though time-consuming, the drive to this place is really puts you in a mood that becomes worthier when goes through serpentine roads beside river Ganges/Alkananda across lush salubrious meadows and yards. It is a very small place and acts as the base for this trek. If time permits, you can also take a halt at Ukhimath temple (situated near Chopta), which is dedicated to Lord Shiva and stay overnight.
Day 2: Ukhimath to Ransi Village & then Bantoli (12 km, Time-5–6 Hours)
A short drive the next day takes you to Ransi, the last motorable point. From here, the trek begins. The trail starts rather easy, through small villages and forests. As you trek, the route turns little steeper till Bantoli - a tiny village nestled at the junction of Madmaheshwar Ganga & Markanda Ganga rivers. You can spend a night at Bantoli which is quite peaceful as well. Accommodation is basic and often in local guesthouses or tents.
Day 3 : Bantoli to Madhyamaheshwar (10 Km,5–6 Hrs)
Mild to moderately challenging: though the trail from Bantoli (which is where you start your climb for Madhyamaheshwar) till it reaches base camp, which begins 1 km ahead of Gaundar at a distance of approx 13 kms into the trek is mostly an ascent. The scenery changes markedly as you climb with dense forests replaced by meadows. The shrines and temples that appear dispersed along the trail offer their own account of what has been transpiring. One gets first sight of the temple against the majestic backdrop of Chaukhamba massif as soon one reaches Madhyamaheshwar. The temple, construction done in the Northern Indian style of architecture is a small and peaceful stone structure. Especially, the evening aarti (prayer) at here just enthralls the soul.
Day 4 Madhyamaheshwar to Ukhimath (22 Kms, 7-8 Hrs)
Awhile later, post the temple Jatra and some quite moments beside it – Ukhimath too comes back knocking! Down is a little easier, but long. The same stunning surroundings are there as you make your way back, of course, but they seem different on the return trip—offering fresh angles. At Ransi, vehicle will waiting for you to drop back Ukhimath night stay.
Day 5: UKhimath to Haridwar, Rishikesh
Return journey back to Haridwar or Rishikesh and the glorious ride finally ends.

1. Transportation: Rs 2,500 -3,000 per person
Haridwar/Rishikesh → Ukhimath: Shared Taxis or Buses Travelling one way can cost ₹500-₹800.
• Ukhimath to Ransi: A shared taxi from Ukhimath to Ransi is going for ₹200-₹300 per person.
2. Cost: ₹1500 - ₹2500 per Person Hall & Room accommodation
– Ukhimath: There are a number of budget guesthouses that come for around ₹500 to ₹800 per night.
Bantoli & Madhyamaheshwar: Guesthouses around ₹300-₹500 per night with homestays as well. Tents are also an option.

Things to Carry

Best season to trek Madhyamaheshwar is from May- mid June and September – October. These are the months when all enjoy good weather with clear blue skies and mild temperatures. Do avoid the monsoon season, when there is heavy rainfall (July-August) and chances of landslides. Heavy snow makes the hike impossible during winter (November through April).
